USA Today Critic's Corner pick

USA Today Critic's Corner has chosen A Pocket Full of Rye as one of the Holiday Weekend's choices to watch.
'Cranford's Julia McKenzie makes a promising debut as Miss Marple in A Pocket Full of Rye (PBS, Sunday, 9 ET/PT, times may vary), the first of four new Agatha Christie Marple stories on Masterpiece Mystery. The tone is a little too arch (despite how they're sometimes played on screen, Christie's Marple mysteries are not comedies). But the plot is relatively true to the book and so is McKenzie, who drops some of the excess twinkle Geraldine McEwan brought to the role."

Miss McKenzie is very good in the role. However, none of Geraldine McEwan's twinkle was excessive and she was absolutely delightful.
